HEAL
The HEAL Project is the heart of everything Joe does — and his most intuitive art.
Most of us carry a version of ourselves that lives only in the mirror — and it is rarely kind. The HEAL Project exists on a simple belief: that being seen, recognized and treated with care is itself a kind of healing. To see yourself for the first time as others see you — not as you fear you look — can change something deep.
It is the quietest and most intuitive thing Joe does. Through his light, and the way he is with a person in the room, someone who has stopped believing they are worth looking at can watch that belief come undone.
who is heal for
HEAL is for anyone for whom being seen would mean something. A person who has lost sight of their own worth. Someone living through illness, who wants a portrait made on their own terms. A family carrying grief or trauma, who need an afternoon of love and laughter as much as a photograph.
Over the years Joe has done this work alongside hospitals and cancer charities, as well as for people who simply found their way to him. Some are nominated by those who love them, some are referred, and some Joe quietly offers it to himself when he senses it's needed.
There is never a cost. Joe's time, the session, and whatever artwork comes from it are always a gift.
A portrait that stays
These portraits are made to outlast the moment — a gift to keep, and to pass on to the people who love them.
If you know someone who would be changed by being truly seen, we’d like to hear from you.
