THE ART OF BEING SEEN

For those the world tends to look past.

The Soulmarks Foundation exists on a simple belief: that art of this kind should reach people who wouldn't normally have access to it — and that being seen belongs to everyone, not only those it usually reaches.

It gives portrait sessions to people who would most benefit from the healing the work can bring. By taking money out of the exchange, the art stays free of commercial interest — and keeps its spirit. As Joe puts it, it's more than philanthropy. It's a form of grassroots activism.

The Foundation is funded by the Soulmarks brands and the generosity of others.

THE FARM PROJECT

Across Missouri, the Soulmarks Foundation is recording the farming families who worked the ground — a fine-art portrait series and a traveling exhibition, Mosaic Missouri. Their portraits, and their stories in their own words, become a permanent record.

THE HEROES PROJECT

The Heroes Project began during the pandemic, with frontline workers across the United States and Europe — the Soulmarks Foundation making each a hand-finished portrait of their own. It is an ongoing record of the people who answer the call.

THE HEAL PROJECT

Being seen can heal. The HEAL Project brings the work of Soulmarks to people for whom a portrait is more than a picture — a step back toward feeling whole.

If you know someone who would be changed by being truly seen — or you'd like to help the Foundation reach more people — we'd like to hear from you.

How the Foundation is funded

The Soulmarks Foundation is funded first by the work itself. A share of the profits from every Soulmarks brand goes straight back into bringing portraits to people who'd never otherwise come to them.

But it reaches further when others stand behind it. If you believe being seen should belong to everyone, you can help the Foundation reach more people.
